Radio Sucks! (Free radio that is)

I was just glancing at the Billboard charts and after looking at the current singles chart I was just left sitting here shaking my head is disbelief. It wasn't disbelief due to shock but just disbelief as to how the top singles just suck so bad. The singles chart is so chock full of hip-hop it's ridiculous. I like hip-hop (rather I used to like it come to think of it) but it has gotten to the point where I'd say 95% of it is pure throw away crap. I can hear a song once and if I don't hear it again I'm actually happy. Hardly anything in that genre lately sticks in my head like a good song should. How the hell is hip-hop still dominating the charts and air waves? You can't say it's because of lack of good music because there is good music out there. However, you really have to search long and hard for any alternative to hip-hop because it is just everywhere. Enough already! I wish I could access the singles charts from 5,10, and 15 yrs ago to compare but Billboard only lists the album charts from those time periods. The album charts don't really mirror the singles charts which right there shows quite a discrepancy with radio.

Yeah there are other radio stations to listen to aside from top 40 but there aren't any where I live. It's either 2 million country stations, 1 million christian music stations (I can't believe people actually listen to that), 3 or 4 top 40 stations, same amount of hip-hop/r&b stations, one rock station that plays mostly really hard edged stuff which gets tiring after a while, and one station that plays a mix of all different types of music. That would be Lightning 100.1 in Nashville. If it wasn't for this station I think I'd go insane.

I wish I could use a service like Yahoo's Launchcast but (sigh) it's not available for MAC OSX - fuckers! I'd love to get something like SIRIUS radio but I not sure I'm up for paying for radio yet.

When I was a kid I used to watch MTV and sometimes come across a new artist or band that I liked from seeing their video. What the hell happened to MTV? Don't they realize that the "M" stands for music?

Back when I was in HS my brother and I used to watch this video station that was on VHF. Our neighborhood still didn't have cable hooked up yet so we didn't have MTV. That station (I wish I could remember the name) was the best. They showed nothing but what would become known as "alternative" music videos. I discovered so many bands and artists through that station because you'd never find them on radio. Any one out there know the name of that tv station?
